Only 17 more sleeps until I’m off the island again. 7 countries, 1 month, no alarms, no responsibility and a whole lot of getting lost. The majority of the company I keep in the corporate world think I’m crazy because apparently my travel plans have about as much logic as a need for ice cubes during a blizzard.
But here’s the thing… I don’t live my life for other people. I made the decision that I was going to celebrate my 30th birthday in Dubai on the 148th floor of the Burj Khalifa. Why? Because it’s the tallest building in the world and I just wanna look at it 😀 This decision lead to Christmas plans in Sri Lanka and New Years in Bangkok.
I get lost a lot and as a solo female traveller I can sometimes find myself as a bit of a target when I’m on the road. But… there is nothing that will keep me from having an amazing trip!
Part of the reason I travel is to learn about food and the role it plays in different cultures. Here in New Zealand I think that we have lost sight of healthy living and are now overrun with large scale processed junk. As a product of an obese family, I’m on a mission to undo my past and create a healthy future. The more I travel, the more I learn about how to live off the land and create fresh, healthy and delicious meals. I’ve been to cooking school in every country I’ve visited, and will continue to do this across the globe.
I think back to my previous solo travel adventures in Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Australia… and at times I can’t believe I did that! I can’t wait to get back on the road and share my adventures with the rest of the world.
Here is a bowl of Mother in Law soup that I learnt to make at a cooking school in Hoi An, Vietnam. Bring on the next adventure!!
